About
katie

Katie Vance is an experienced Associate at Quicker Law and a registered patent attorney with a nationwide practice focused on intellectual property litigation and strategy. She represents domestic and international clients in disputes involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and domain names, as well as licensing and broader commercial conflicts. Katie is known for her practical approach, technical fluency, responsiveness, professionalism and success in resolving complex IP matters both in and out of court.

Katie has recently defended clients in several federal lawsuits involving patent infringement, including the successful defense of a medical device company accused of infringing a competitor’s patent. She has also conducted a Markman hearing that resulted in the invalidation of a patent in the firearms space—a significant win for her client. She regularly appears before U.S. district courts, state courts, and administrative panels.

Her trademark litigation experience includes obtaining a preliminary injunction on behalf of a law firm client in a closely-watched slogan dispute, preserving the integrity of the client’s brand against a competitor using confusingly similar advertising. In a major appellate win, Katie was part of the team that secured a precedential ruling at the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, clarifying the standard for establishing personal jurisdiction in trademark disputes and strengthening the rights of brand owners in federal court.

In addition to her IP litigation practice, Katie has experience in franchise law disputes, including successfully defending a client in a complex franchising case involving contractual and trademark issues. Her ability to navigate the intersection of intellectual property and franchising makes her a valuable resource for franchisors and franchisees alike.

Katie has also developed a strong UDRP practice, where she has successfully handled numerous domain name disputes, recovering infringing domains and enforcing clients’ trademark rights against cybersquatters.

Currently, Katie is defending multiple international companies in complex patent and trademark infringement actions in federal courts, as well as a trademark cancellation proceeding at the TTAB. Her ability to represent clients from diverse jurisdictions in U.S. forums has made her a go-to advocate for global businesses facing IP litigation in the U.S.

Katie’s litigation work is bolstered by her technical background. Before law school, she spent nearly eight years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Inorganic and Radiation Analytical Technology Branch. She led and contributed to analytical chemistry projects and quality assurance programs with international reach—including EQUIP, LAMP, and PAsS—and developed novel methods for elemental and iodine analysis using ICP-MS. Her training in a CLIA ‘88–regulated environment informs her deep understanding of scientific evidence and expert testimony.

Katie earned her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law while working full-time at the CDC. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she also competed as a Division I athlete on the cross country and track teams.

Outside of her practice, Katie is committed to pro bono work and public service. She regularly volunteers with the Atlanta Legal Aid Eviction Clinic, has defended individuals in temporary protective order (TPO) hearings, and has represented clients pro bono in copyright infringement defense matters.
